About this role

Planner Opportunities

The role

SSEN Transmission is recruiting Planners to join the Business Development PMO Planning and Portfolio Intelligence team. You will provide practical planning and scheduling support across our future investment portfolio, including strategic industry programmes such as SSEP and CSNP, as well as early-stage investment opportunities progressing towards formal project development.

Using Primavera P6, you will develop and maintain robust, integrated schedules that bring together key milestones, activities, dependencies and assumptions. While this role sits at the portfolio and front end of the investment lifecycle, it requires the same strong planning disciplines used across major infrastructure projects. You will provide clear insight into progress, risks, constraints and the actions needed to keep programmes and investment opportunities moving forward.

You will

  • Develop, maintain and manage high-quality, integrated schedules for strategic programmes and early-stage investment opportunities as they progress towards formal project development.
  • Use Primavera P6 to build, update and analyse plans, helping teams understand key milestones, progress, dependencies, risks and potential impacts.
  • Work closely with programme and project managers, Network Development, Strategy, Asset Management, Regulation, Commercial and Investment Planning teams to create realistic and aligned programmes.
  • Review, challenge and improve schedules, ensuring they are clear, logic-driven and provide a reliable basis for planning and decision-making.
  • Provide clear reporting and planning insight that helps programme and business leaders understand performance, identify emerging issues and agree the actions needed to maintain progress.

You have

  • Experience in planning, scheduling, portfolio planning or project controls within a complex infrastructure, engineering, utilities or regulated environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6, including schedule development, critical path analysis, milestones, dependencies and programme logic.
  • Experience supporting multiple programmes, portfolios or early-stage investment opportunities, with an understanding of governance frameworks and investment lifecycles.
  • Strong analytical and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to challenge assumptions, interpret complex information and influence decision-making across diverse teams.
  • Excellent reporting and data presentation skills, using Microsoft 365 and planning tools; knowledge of Power BI, electricity transmission or regulated infrastructure investment would be advantageous.

About SSE

SSE’s purpose is to be restless every day until we make electricity clean, affordable and available for all.

We do this by developing, building, operating and investing in electricity infrastructure and businesses needed in the energy transition. This includes electricity transmission and distribution networks, onshore and offshore wind farms, hydro-electric power and flexible thermal generation. We also provide products and services for businesses and other customers.

Our investment plan will see SSE invest £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030.

SSEN Transmission own and operate the electricity transmission network across the north of Scotland. We transport electricity from where it is generated to where it is needed, ensuring a safe and reliable electricity supply for the communities we serve. But that's not all – we're upgrading the grid to deliver cleaner, homegrown power for the future and building the infrastructure needed for a cleaner electricity system to create secure power for generations to come.
