We're looking for a Planner to join our Birmingham Highways Maintenance Contract team based in Thimble Mill Lane. This position is being offered on an 8-month fixed term contract.

Location: Thimble Mill Lane, Birmingham Hours: 8-month Fixed term 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us Salary: £30,000 - £32,000 per year + excellent benefits We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

We're seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Planner who will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring programmes to ensure the successful delivery of our Capital Works programme. This role will provide critical planning support, optimise resource allocation, and mitigate risks to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with governance standards.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Planner, you'll be working within the Birmingham Highways Maintenance Contract team, supporting them in delivering capital works projects successfully. Your day to day will include:

  • Ensuring alignment of individual project timelines with overall programme objectives and tracking progress against milestones
  • Planning and allocating resources effectively across multiple projects, identifying gaps and proposing solutions
  • Preparing accurate reports and dashboards for stakeholders and senior leadership
  • Identifying potential scheduling conflicts and risks early, recommending corrective actions and contingency plans
  • Liaising with project managers, contractors, and internal teams whilst maintaining programme compliance with streetworks permits

What are we looking for?

This Planner opportunity is well suited to someone who:

  • Brings experience from a highways maintenance, infrastructure, or construction environment
  • Has successfully developed and managed project programmes for capital works or construction projects
  • Thrives in a fast-paced setting, with excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Builds strong working relationships through clear communication and effective stakeholder engagement
  • Uses Microsoft Office and project planning software confidently to support project delivery, identify risks, and solve problems
