Job title: Planned Giving Director
About the Role The Planned Giving Director leads development, management, and implementation of a comprehensive planned giving program to secure deferred gifts (bequests, trusts, annuities) that support the American Cancer Society’s mission. This strategic, donor-centered role focuses on relationship management with donors and estate/planning professionals, cross-functional collaboration, and sustaining long-term financial support. This role is remote but based in the Nashville metro area.
What You'll Do
- Meet in-person (60%+) or by phone/virtually with prospects, donors, and professional advisors to share information about the planned giving program and ACS mission.
- Grow and manage a portfolio of qualified, active prospects through moves management: identification, cultivation, solicitation, execution, stewardship.
- Attain annual targets for personal visits, proposals delivered, and new planned gift commitments closed.
- Utilize Salesforce to track, qualify and report prospect, donor, and advisor contacts and progression through moves management stages.
- Collaborate with philanthropy and other colleagues to leverage opportunities for blended gift proposals and additional planned giving prospects.
- Stay current on estate and gifting techniques, applicable tax laws, and charitable giving trends.
- Remain knowledgeable about ACS's life-saving work in cancer research, patient support, prevention/education, and detection and treatment.
- Model collaborative behavior consistent with ACS culture and values.
- Travel three or more days per week within the designated territory.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent experience; CAP and/or CFRE preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising or equivalent relationship-building.
- Planned Giving experience preferred; knowledge of estate planning and gifting techniques; experience with planned giving software (Crescendo/Salesforce) preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle; reliable internet connection.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational and multi-project management abilities.
- Strong judgment, confidentiality, and customer-centric mindset.
- Strategic thinking, action orientation, results-driven attitude; interpersonal savvy; networking and persuasive communication.
Nice to Have
- CAP or CFRE certification.
- Experience working with legal/financial advisors.
- Comfort with cross-functional collaboration in a large nonprofit.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary: $100,000–$110,000 per year.
