What You'll Do

You'll be the kind of person who:

  • About the Client

  • The company is an Australian engineering consultancy providing engineering, design, project management and specialist technical services to clients in the mining, minerals processing, ports, power generation and heavy industrial sectors. The role will support Australian-based project teams delivering engineering solutions across a diverse range of brownfield projects, plant modifications and engineering upgrades.

  • Purpose of the Role

  • We require an experienced Piping Engineer to provide engineering design, analysis and documentation support toAustralian lead engineers.

  • The role is focused on engineering analysis, technical problem-solving and the development of fit-for-purpose engineering solutions, rather than primarily producing drawings or 3D models. Australian engineers will retain responsibility for client management, project management and engineering sign-off.

  • Typical Work

The piping engineer will support projects involving piping, pressure vessels and storage tanks, and associated mechanical equipment, including:

  • Brownfield plant modifications and upgrades.

  • Engineering calculations and verification of new systems.

  • Piping stress analysis and flexibility assessments.

  • Serviceability and maintenance of ageing systems.

  • Engineering analysis to prescribe repairs.

  • Preparation of engineering reports, specifications and scopes of work.

  • Reviewing and checking engineering drawings and models.

  • Collaboration with Australian engineers, designers and project managers.

  • The primary focus of the role will be piping engineering analysis, asset integrity and technical reporting. The successful applicant will also be required to provide mechanical engineering support and contribute to design development and verification where required.

  • Most work will be associated with mining, minerals processing and heavy industrial facilities.

Requirements

What You Bring:

  • -

We're looking for someone who:

  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.

  • Has relevant piping or mechanical engineering experience, with demonstrated responsibility for engineering assessments, calculations and technical deliverables.

  • Has consulting engineering experience working on multiple jobs with defined budgets, schedules and deliverables. Experience working with Australian projects is preferred.

  • Is experienced with projects within mining, minerals processing, power generation or heavy industrial environments.

  • Has demonstrated experience applying relevant engineering codes and standards, including ASME B31.3, ASME Section VIII Division 1, API 510, API 570 and API 650, to engineering assessments, technical advice and compliance verification for piping, pressure vessels and storage tanks.

  • Can prepare clear technical reports, calculations and engineering documentation.

  • Understands engineering risk assessment and safe design principles.

  • Can perform piping and tank stress analysis and flexibility evaluations to verify structural integrity under operating temperatures and pressures.

  • Has experience with piping, pressure vessel and tank calculations and strong knowledge of the relevant engineering principles.

  • Can select and document appropriate piping materials, valves, supports, and inline components based on process fluid characteristics and operating conditions.

  • Can review and verify isometric drawings, process and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and civil-structural interface documents.

  • Can communicate technical requirements with cross-functional discipline teams.

  • Works independently on assigned engineering tasks while recognising when clarification, specialist input or escalation is required.

  • Can prepare detailed piping layouts, equipment plot plans, and 3D models using specialised computer-aided design tools.

  • Desirable Experience (Optional)

  • Experience preparing piping layouts, equipment plot plans or 3D models using specialised computer-aided design tools.

  • Experience working on Australian mining and industrial projects.

  • Familiarity with AS 1210, AS 4041, AS 3788 and AS/NZS 1200.

  • Experienced engineer with demonstrated expertise in the application of ASME Section VIII, Division 1, API 510, API 570 and API 650, providing engineering assessment, technical advice and compliance verification for pressure vessels, in-service pressure equipment and piping systems, and storage tanks.

  • Piping stress analysis software Caesar II or AutoPIPE

  • Pressure vessel analysis software Compress or equivalent

  • ANSYS or similar FEA analysis software

  • SharePoint (or equivalent document management systems)

  • AutoCAD, Plant 3D or SolidWorks (preferred, not essential)

  • The ability to interpret and evaluate 3D models is important. However, the primary requirement is the ability to undertake and document sound engineering assessments. Detailed drafting and 3D modelling are supporting capabilities rather than the principal purpose of the role.

  • Attributes
