A brief overview
The PI Data Historian, Integration System Engineer is responsible for the full lifecycle management, implementation, and support of AVEVA PI Data Historian systems across manufacturing and IT/OT environments. This role ensures reliable, secure, and compliant data collection, integration, and visualization between production equipment, automation systems, and enterprise applications. The position supports new site deployments, system commissioning, GMP validation, operational readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to enable scalable digital manufacturing solutions.
What you will do
- PI System Lifecycle Management: Manage the full lifecycle of the AVEVA PI Data Historian System, including architecture, development, installation, commissioning, maintenance, upgrades, and decommissioning.
- Manufacturing Site Deployment Support: Support greenfield and brownfield manufacturing projects by deploying PI infrastructure for new production facilities, site start-ups, and expansion initiatives.
- IT/OT Integration & Data Flow Enablement: Design, implement, and optimize historian and integration solutions that connect OT equipment, PLCs, SCADA, DCS, MES, automation systems, and enterprise IT applications.
- System Implementation & Operational Readiness: Lead PI System implementation activities, including system design, validation, commissioning, and readiness for ongoing manufacturing operations.
- Technical Solution Design: Translate business and operational requirements into scalable technical solutions, including PI tags, AF structures, event frames, data models, interfaces, connectors, and scripts.
- Troubleshooting & Operational Support: Lead incident, change, and problem management processes while resolving complex issues related to industrial data collection, communication interfaces, storage, synchronization, and retrieval.
- Compliance, Validation & Documentation: Support GMP, CSV, commissioning, and qualification activities while creating and maintaining compliant documentation such as specifications, test protocols, validation records, SOPs, and lifecycle documents.
- System Administration & Reliability: Administer a 24/7 operational PI System to ensure high availability, performance, reliability, and disaster recovery readiness.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration & Vendor Management: Partner with automation, infrastructure, cybersecurity, manufacturing, digitalization teams, external vendors, system integrators, and engineering partners to support project execution and operations.
- Continuous Improvement & Technical Leadership: Analyze system performance, drive improvements for historian and integration platforms, provide technical guidance to project teams, and serve as an SME during audits, inspections, and assessments.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in software engineering, computer science, information technology, automation engineering or related technical field

4 - 6 years of hands-on experience in PI Historian engineering, system integration, and technical project delivery within pharmaceutical manufacturing environments.

Hands-on experience with AVEVA PI Data Historian systems, including PI Server, PI AF, PI Vision, Interfaces, Connectors, and Adaptors.

Strong understanding of historian system architecture, industrial data integration, real-time data management, and data contextualization, visualization, reporting, and analytics platforms.

Experience integrating OT equipment, PLCs, SCADA, DCS, MES, automation systems, and manufacturing execution/integration platforms with enterprise IT infrastructure and applications.

Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as OPC DA/UA, Modbus, MQTT, BACnet, and Ethernet/IP.

Project experience supporting new manufacturing site deployments, commissioning activities, large-scale production expansions, and digital manufacturing initiatives.

Background administering production-critical applications in regulated manufacturing environments, with familiarity in Windows Server, virtualization, networking, Active Directory, backup/recovery, and cybersecurity principles.

Experience with Computerized System Validation (CSV), GMP compliance, and data integrity requirements within regulated industries.

Proficiency in scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell or Python for system administration and workflow automation.

Strong troubleshooting, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across IT, OT, cross-functional, and global project environments.

Base Annual
Salary
Range: $111,920 - $153,890
Placement of new hires in this wage range is based on several factors including education, skill sets, experience, and training.
