Job Summary
The mission of the Health and Counseling Center (HCC) is to provide comprehensive, high-quality, compassionate, and accessible health services to students at the University of Portland. The Physician Associate (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) serves as a primary healthcare provider within the University of Portland Health & Counseling Center (HCC), delivering comprehensive, evidence-based care that supports student health, wellness, and overall student success outcomes. This position provides assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care for acute and chronic health conditions, while emphasizing preventive care, health education, and wellness promotion for a diverse student population.
Working as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team, the PA/NP partners with HCC colleagues, campus departments, and community healthcare resources to ensure coordinated, compassionate, and student-centered care. The role includes clinical consultation and triage, management of electronic health records, development and implementation of clinical protocols, and participation in quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory compliance initiatives.

This position reports to the Director of the Health & Counseling Center.
As the HCC operates on an academic year when students are on campus, this position works a 10-month assignment period from August through May and receives the summer months of June and July off. The University total compensation package is offered for all 12 months.
The posted starting salary is based off the 10-month assignment period which is considered a .83 FTE. The University is able to commensurate the salary based off measurable years of relevant experience and licensure.
Core Duties
- Provide direct clinical services to students which includes assessment, diagnosis and management of acute and chronic health conditions; ordering and interpretation of diagnostic tests; and prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments.
- Provide triage and consult via telephone and electronic communication methods as appropriate.
- Educate students on treatment plans, self-care strategies, and campus or community resources.
- Deliver preventive health services to support student wellness, immunization review, health screenings, and health promotion support.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical documentation within the electronic health record (EHR).
- Support the Primary Care Team in maintaining an efficient, high-quality, and compassionate clinic. Participate in team meetings, collaborative practice discussions, case review, and represent the HCC at meetings and conferences as needed.
- Collaborate with HCC staff, campus partners, and community healthcare resources to strengthen and facilitate care to enhance student success and wellness.
- Develop, review, and implement clinical protocols and evidence-based practices for routine and emergency care situations, working in collaboration with the Director of the HCC.
- Participate in quality improvement, risk management, and patient safety initiatives to enhance clinical outcomes and service excellence.
- Support compliance with all applicable federal, state, and accrediting regulations, including OSHA, CLIA, HIPAA, and professional practice standards.
- Actively contribute to the review and maintenance of departmental policies, procedures, and clinic workflows.

Education & Experience
- Required: Master’s degree in certified Nursing or Physician Assistant program.
- Required: Two or more years directly relevant professional experience in family or internal medicine practice.
- Preferred: Experience in health services within a higher education institution.
- Preferred: Experience precepting nurse practitioner students.
- Or a combination of equivalent education and/or experience
Certifications & Licenses
- Required: License to practice as Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Oregon.
- Required: National certification as Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
- Required: Dispensing license; DEA license; BLS.
