Job title: Physician Assistant Program Faculty
About the Role The Physician Assistant Program faculty at University of the Pacific is responsible for providing all aspects of didactic education for the Program. Faculty members are integral to all activities of the program, with scholarship and service requirements equating to a minimum of 30% of the workload for tenure-track faculty. The role emphasizes student learning in a humanistic environment and collaboration to advance patient-centered care, along with ongoing scholarly activity and participation in accreditation, admissions, and program governance. This is a Sacramento-area position with in-person responsibilities and potential release time for clinical practice in the PA field.
What You'll Do
- Advising and mentoring students, course coordination, classroom teaching, participation in course assignments and student assessment, developing student objectives, participating in lab sessions, performing clinical site visits, and assisting with clinical site evaluation.
- Establishing an ongoing personal program of scholarly activity.
- Participation in department meetings, college and university committees, and state and/or national organizations.
- Participation in the ARC-PA continuing accreditation process.
- Participation in the admissions process.
- Clinical: Opportunities exist for release time to perform clinical work in the PA's area of expertise.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduate from an ARC-PA-accredited PA program.
- Master’s degree in PA studies or other discipline.
- Current NCCPA certification.
- State licensure in California (or eligible for state license).
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a Physician Assistant.
- Minimum of one (1) year of academic experience in Physician Assistant Education. Preferred Qualifications:
- DMSc, PhD, DHSc, or equivalent.
- Five (5) or more years of experience in Physician Assistant Education.
- Proficiency in Medical Spanish.
- Desire for growth as an educator, including teaching, scholarship, and service.
- Willingness to teach and learn from students across all phases of the curriculum.
- Involvement or interest in professional organizations within the field.
- Involvement or interest in professional education beyond the school at local, state, regional, national, and international levels.
- Intermediate to advanced computer skills (MS Office Suite and MS Outlook).
- Ability to work with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge.
Nice to Have
- DMSc, PhD, DHSc, or equivalent preferred.
- Five (5) or more years of PA Education experience.
- Proficiency in Medical Spanish.
