Responsibilities

  • The position involves providing a full range of physician assistant services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of training and privileges granted. duties include supervising and providing general screening and medical care and examinations for routine, acute, and chronic conditions; immunizations; diagnosing, treating, and counseling patients; directing and teaching staff; promoting preventive care and health maintenance through education and counseling; prescribing within approved protocols and medications; identifying problems and determining appropriate actions, including referrals; performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within scope of practice; establishing collaborative relationships with physicians and other staff; educating patients and families on wellness; attending staff meetings for case discussions and continuous quality improvement; participating in peer review; conducting special evaluations such as health assessments for non-flying personnel; reviewing medical documentation to determine qualifications for retraining or assignments in accordance with DoD and Air Force policy.

  • Administrative duties include conducting comprehensive pre/post-deployment clearances in line with military standards, performing separation health assessments, mental health screening and assessment protocols with referrals as indicated, administering occupational health surveillance, processing medical waivers and retention determinations, maintaining detailed compliance documentation, collaborating with command personnel on readiness issues, and staying current with evolving military medical policies.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited college or university certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, and acceptable to the HQ USAF/SG.
  • Experience: At least 12 months of experience as a Physician Assistant.
  • Certification: Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Must maintain NCCPA certification.
  • Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
  • Security: Ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
  • Life Support Certification: Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
