GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The phlebotomist position will perform blood collections in a safe, accurate, and professional manner in high paced work areas. This person is responsible for accurate patient identification, specimen integrity, and sample labeling. Interacts with customers in a pleasant, efficient, and cooperative manner. This position will also be training new employees, and teaching phlebotomy students.

HOURS

Monday through Friday 2pm-6pm 20 hour FTE

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

  1. Demonstrate a competency of phlebotomy skills and techniques including venipuncture, heel sticks, blood cultures, pediatric specimens, and special collections such as those for blood banking on an annual basis.

  2. Greet and identify all patients in a courteous and confidential manner. Outpatients are responded to within 10 minutes of arrival to the laboratory.

  3. Perform end of shift duties including, but not limited to, resolving collection pending list, sanitizing work area, and restocking collection trays.

  4. Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence consistent with hospital-wide and department specific standards.

  5. Demonstrate teamwork, cooperation, and respect to internal and external customers alike.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent

  2. Certification in phlebotomy training or successful completion of on-the-job training program or one-year acceptable work performance as phlebotomist in a CUA regulated, accredited laboratory.
