About the Role The Phlebotomist Clerical Support at Bay Area Hospital provides blood specimen collection and clerical support within the Laboratory, delivering courteous and professional service to patients of all ages while leveraging computer systems for documentation and workflow. This role emphasizes patient interaction, confidentiality, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
What You'll Do
- Obtain blood specimens from patients of all ages in a courteous and professional manner.
- Use a personal computer and applicable software; operate office equipment; maintain accurate records.
- Interact effectively with other departments and the public; maintain confidentiality.
- Follow standard precautions and safety guidelines; adhere to procedures.
- Demonstrate legible handwriting and reliable attendance; work with minimal supervision as needed.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
- Registered as a Certified Laboratory Phlebotomist with a national certification agency (ASCP or NCA) or show proof of pending recertification preferred.
- Working knowledge of HIS and LIS computer systems; experience with 5-line telephone; Vacutainer system components; syringes; butterfly needles; safety needles; finger-heelstick devices; autoclave and barcode printers preferred.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality; strong communication skills; legible handwriting; regular attendance.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach; able to lift up to 40 pounds; must comply with standard precautions.
Nice to Have
- Certification as a phlebotomist (NCA/ASCP) or pending recertification.
- Experience with HIS and LIS systems and related equipment (Vacutainer systems, barcode printers, autoclave).
- Effective communication and confidentiality practices in a healthcare setting.
