PhD Studentship - Kilifi
Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.
- Master’s degree or the equivalent from a recognized University, relevant to the area of study (Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Public Health or related field). Mandatory
- Proof of current PhD registration with a recognized University, either local or International within their first year of PhD studies will be an added advantage Added Advantage
- Willingness to commit efforts and dedication to the PhD studies Mandatory
- Must demonstrate capacity for continued career growth through publications in peer-reviewed journals and/or presentation at scientific meetings. Previous publications related to the research themes of the project will be an added advantage. Added Advantage
- Must have excellent communication, analytical and writing skills in English Mandatory
- Personal motivation of the candidate as demonstrated by their motivation letter and responses during the interview Mandatory
- Demonstrate intention to pursue a long-term career in malaria research. Mandatory
- Commitment to work in Kilifi County, Kenya for the duration of their studies Mandatory
- Master's degree in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Public Health, or a related field. Mandatory
- Proficiency in data analysis software and statistical methods. Mandatory
- Hands-on experience in field data collection, including supporting data collection efforts and coordinating fieldwork activities. Mandatory
- A collaborative team player. Mandatory
- Molecular biology skills such as PCR, RT-PCR sequencing, cell culture, microscopy, field work Mandatory
- A motivation letter of not more than two (2) pages, outlining the applicant’s academic and professional background, relevant experience in relation to the project and position, motivation for undertaking a PhD, expectations and learning objectives from the PhD programme, and plans and career goals after completion of the PhD. Mandatory
- A recent CV indicating previous and/or current employer(s) and position(s) held, as well as a list of peer reviewed publications (if any). Maximum of 3 pages. Mandatory
- Certified copies of academic transcripts and relevant certificates (BSc and MSc) Mandatory
- Supporting letters from two professional referees: one academic and one professional or social referee, together with their official work telephone numbers, institutional addresses and official e-mail addresses, where applicable. Mandatory
