Job role

• The Pharmacy Manager will provide senior operational leadership and day-to-day management for AMCE's pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient, and specialised care areas.
• The role holder will coordinate clinical, operational, and supply chain pharmacy activities, strengthen medication safety and regulatory compliance, and support service growth as the department expands in scope and complexity.
• This role will also serve as a key link between pharmacy leadership and frontline operational teams to ensure efficient, high-quality, and patient-centred pharmacy service delivery.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities

Operational Management and Service Delivery:

• Oversee the day-to-day operational management of pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient, and specialised clinical areas.
• Coordinate pharmacy workflows, workforce deployment, shift coverage, and service priorities to ensure timely and efficient service delivery.
• Monitor service performance, identify operational bottlenecks, and implement improvements to strengthen patient experience and departmental productivity.

Medication Safety, Clinical Governance and Quality:

• Promote safe, evidence-based, and patient-centred medication use across all pharmacy service areas.
• Drive compliance with medication safety protocols, formulary controls, antimicrobial stewardship practices, incident reporting, and corrective action implementation.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives that enhance safety, dispensing accuracy, documentation standards, turnaround time, and regulatory readiness.

Inventory, Procurement and Supply Chain Oversight:

• Provide operational oversight for inventory management, stock availability, controlled medicines, cold-chain products, and medication storage standards.
• Work with procurement, stores, finance, and clinical stakeholders to support timely sourcing, replenishment, and rational use of medicines and consumables.
• Monitor stock movement, expiries, wastage, shortages, and usage trends, recommending actions to improve cost control and supply reliability.

People Management, Mentorship and Succession Support:

• Provide direct supervision, coaching, and mentorship to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns, and support staff.
• Support workforce planning, competency development, roster management, performance feedback, and professional development for pharmacy team members.
• Contribute to succession planning and strengthening accountability within the pharmacy team.

Strategic Support and Stakeholder Collaboration:

• Support pharmacy leadership in implementing strategic initiatives, service expansion plans, and operational transformation priorities.
• Serve as a key operational link between the Head of Pharmacy and frontline pharmacy teams, ensuring alignment, communication, and execution.
• Collaborate with clinical departments, nursing, procurement, finance, quality, and operations teams to improve pharmacy service integration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD), or equivalent pharmacy qualification from a recognised institution.
• Current registration and licence to practise as a Pharmacist with the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria or other applicable professional regulatory body.
• Postgraduate qualification or professional certification in Clinical Pharmacy, Hospital Pharmacy, Pharmacy Management, Healthcare Management, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
• Training or certification in medication safety, quality improvement, antimicrobial stewardship, pharmacovigilance, or healthcare risk management is desirable.
• Strong knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice, medication governance, inventory control, controlled medicines management, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Experience

• 8-10 years of progressive pharmacy experience, with significant exposure to hospital pharmacy operations and leadership.
• Demonstrated experience managing pharmacy services across inpatient, outpatient, and specialised care environments.
• Proven experience supervising and developing pharmacy teams, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, interns, and support staff.
• Strong track record in medication safety, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, inventory management, and pharmacy service optimisation.
• Experience working in a tertiary, specialist, or international hospital environment is highly desirable.
• Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR), pharmacy information systems, inventory management systems, and standard Microsoft Office tools.
