Job title: Pet Surrender Intake Coordinator
About the Role This is not a traditional job posting. It describes the surrender intake process at Salem Animal Rescue League (SARL), a limited-admission shelter. Pets originally adopted from SARL are prioritized for intake, but the shelter accepts as many local surrenders as possible. Because capacity is limited, all surrender requests will receive a full assessment for level of care, need, and available space before admission. SARL does not euthanize for space, and as space opens up, more animals may be approved for admission. During peak times, there may be a wait list.
What You'll Do
- Process surrender requests and conduct a full assessment of each animal’s level of care, needs, and space status before admission.
- Maintain a wait list during busy periods.
- Communicate information to surrendering pet owners and coordinate with shelter staff to manage admissions.
- Provide accurate information about policies, including the shelter's stance on not euthanizing for space.
