About this role

About the Role Join the University of the Pacific's Department of Periodontics as a faculty member responsible for delivering periodontal pre-clinical and clinical content within the DDS and IDS curricula. The successful candidate will supervise student learning across didactic, pre-clinical, and clinical activities and contribute to teaching, patient care, scholarship, professional development, and service. The department emphasizes diversity, equity, and inclusion and seeks a colleague who fosters an inclusive learning environment.

What You'll Do

  • Model ethics, humanism, professionalism, collaboration, and the dental school's mission; stay current; engage students in reflection and critical thinking; perform duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
  • Teach: deliver lectures, seminars, preclinical simulations, clinical and online teaching; serve as course director with responsibility for planning, implementation, coordination, and evaluation; provide feedback that preserves dignity and promotes learning; participate in calibration exercises; use student ratings and peer evaluations to improve curricular content and delivery.
  • Patient Care: promote patient-centered care in clinics; participate in orientation and calibration; set high standards of care; refer when appropriate; participate in quality assurance programs; be on time for clinical sessions; provide periodontal surgical care, including evaluation, treatment planning, and surgery; participate in and provide coverage for evening/night clinic sessions as assigned to ensure continuity of patient care and student supervision.
  • Scholarship: build research endeavors; demonstrate effort in scholarly activities including peer-reviewed publications and presentations; recognize that scholarship is necessary for promotion.
  • Service: engage in service opportunities related to the dental school, the university, the profession, and the community.

What We're Looking For

  • Knowledge of: dental school generalist teaching model, integrated interprofessional care, and competency-based education and assessment methodology; accepted non-surgical and surgical protocols for periodontal management; computer software to include Word, Excel, AxiUm and PowerPoint.
  • Experience: minimum two years teaching in an accredited dental school setting; minimum five years’ practice experience.
  • Education: DDS/DMD or equivalent; Certificate of Proficiency in Periodontics from a recognized U.S. post-doctoral program; Valid CPR certificate.
