Job title: Penetrant Line Operator
About the Role The Penetrant Line Operator completes all steps necessary to apply fluorescent penetrant on castings and to prepare them for penetrant inspection and evaluation by the system. Training is provided on the job for Level 1 Penetrant Inspection.
What You'll Do
- Perform penetrant line operations: visually inspect castings for surface dirt; clean and degrease as necessary; chemically etch specific castings; neutralize parts with water and dry; apply fluorescent penetrant liquid using hand-held, electro-static sprayer; allow penetrant to be absorbed; wash castings to remove penetrant; pre-dry; place castings in developing cabinet for automatic powder developer; visually inspect and clean as needed; wear protective gear.
- Maintain penetrant line equipment and work area: perform maintenance and minor repairs on equipment; keep work area and materials clean and orderly.
- Safety: adhere to plant and department safety rules; safely operate all equipment and tools; identify and report safety problems.
- Complete logs and records.
- Training: Level 1 Penetrant Inspection Courses and Level 1 Penetrant Inspection Certification.
What We're Looking For
- High School Graduation or GED; ability to read, write, and follow specifications on Tech Cards.
- Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing 20 to 40 pounds, occasionally up to 80 pounds.
- Ability to work in difficult conditions including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes and other elements for extended periods.
- Willingness to follow safety rules and safely operate equipment.
- Ability to obtain Level 1 Penetrant Inspection Certification (training provided on the job).
