Job title: Peer Tutor – Dickey Hall / STEM Zone Lab

About the Role Schreiner University is seeking a Peer Tutor to provide individualized and group academic support in Dickey Hall and the STEM Zone Lab. The role focuses on tutoring plus academic coaching to help students develop study strategies, time management, and confidence, contributing to a culture of academic success and belonging.

What You'll Do

  • Provide one-on-one and small group tutoring across assigned subject areas
  • Drive a positive, encouraging learning environment that builds student confidence
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies tailored to diverse learning styles
  • Assist students with time management, study skills, and academic planning
  • Support and help facilitate academic success programs (e.g., Writing Center, Supplemental Instruction, Study Buddy Program)
  • Collaborate with staff to develop and implement student success initiatives
  • Maintain accurate records of tutoring sessions and student engagement
  • Promote academic resources and services available through Dickey Hall and the STEM Zone Lab
  • Serve as a role model for academic excellence, professionalism, and leadership

What We're Looking For

  • Enrolled as a full-time Schreiner University student with strong academic performance in relevant subject areas
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to explain concepts clearly in both individual and group settings
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, dependability, and strong organizational/time management skills
  • Ability to build rapport and create a supportive, engaging learning environment
  • Interest in helping others succeed and contributing to a positive student experience
  • Experience with tutoring, mentoring, or academic support (preferred but not required)
  • Familiarity with Google Suite / Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new systems

Nice to Have

  • Prior tutoring, mentoring, or academic support experience (preferred)
  • Experience facilitating academic success programs (e.g., Writing Center, SI, Study Buddy) (optional)
