About the Role Wheaton College’s nursing program is seeking a Pediatrics Clinical Affiliated Instructor to support pediatric nursing education and supervise clinical experiences. The role focuses on orienting students to policies, coordinating with clinical sites, and guiding a group of learners through pediatric clinical rotations to align with the college’s mission and inclusive excellence. What You'll Do

  • Review classroom and clinical course objectives and apply teaching techniques to achieve the course and program objectives.
  • Model effective oral and written communication that engages students and clarifies expectations.
  • Orient students to the clinical area, demonstrate proper procedures, and supervise care provided by a group of students (typically six) during clinical rotations.
  • Coordinate with clinicians at the clinical site to assign students to patients; lead pre-conferences and post-conferences to review care plans.
  • Develop patient care assignments that meet course objectives, including professional role development, assessment, planning, documentation, medication administration, and essential clinical skills.
  • Maintain clinical standards and course expectations; evaluate and grade student performance using a weekly rubric.
  • Maintain a professional knowledge base in pediatric nursing and stay current with contemporary practice.
  • Communicate with the Course Coordinator to resolve issues in clinical areas; work effectively as part of the faculty team and participate in governance and program committees.
  • Prepare a summary evaluation of student performance at the end of the course and submit signed forms to the Course Coordinator.
  • Demonstrate ethical conduct and leadership in peer review, quality assurance, and collaboration with the healthcare team. What We're Looking For
  • Experience in pediatric nursing and clinical education.
  • Ability to supervise a group of students (typically 6) during clinical rotations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to guide discussion and provide feedback.
  • Experience coordinating with clinical sites and orienting students to the clinical environment.
  • Familiarity with clinical simulation labs and field-based teaching.
  • Commitment to professionalism, cultural competence, and inclusivity in healthcare education. Nice to Have
  • Prior experience teaching in higher education or nursing programs.
  • Experience with program evaluation and ongoing quality improvement.
  • Pediatric clinical site coordination experience.
  • Licensure or strong background in nursing (pediatric focus) per program needs. Compensation & Benefits
