About the Role PD 1015 Peer Instructor is a part-time on-campus co-op position supporting first-year students in the PD 1015: Next Bearcat Lives Here course during Fall 2026. The PI works with the PD 1015 Instructor as a co-facilitator, mentor, and connector to foster belonging, student success, and exploration of academic and professional pathways. The start date is August 17 and the end date is December 4, 2026. Arts & Sciences majors may be eligible to earn co-op credit toward the A&S co-op track. What You'll Do
- Co-facilitator: before the semester, provide feedback on the instructor’s syllabus, including class assignments, topics, presentations, and course sequencing; attend and actively participate in all PD 1015 class sessions; help foster student community and belonging; facilitate discussions and engaging activities as discussed with the instructor during 1:1 weekly meetings; meet with the instructor for 1 hour per week to discuss class facilitation and student issues.
- Mentor/Student Leader: be approachable and available to PD 1015 students; serve as a role model in academics, involvement, and professional preparation; participate actively in class; share lived experiences when applicable; demonstrate empathy; develop a paraprofessional mentorship relationship and meet 1:1 with students to contribute to their success and goals.
- Connector: connect students with on-campus resources; provide a peer perspective on what it means to be a Bearcat; promote relationships between instructor and students; support fellow Peer Instructors.
- Communications & Administrative: take attendance; follow up with students within 24 hours if they miss class; send weekly communications with assignment reminders and campus happenings as directed by the PD 1015 instructor; perform other duties as assigned.
- Training/Course credit: Enroll in COOP 3031: On-Campus Co-op Peer Educator Experience (0-1 credit); in-person weekly meetings Wednesdays from 12:30-1:50 pm; training includes approximately 7 hours pre-semester. What We're Looking For
- Minimum Requirements: at least a second-year UC undergraduate student during Fall 2026; applicable major related to the course’s student population strongly desired; minimum GPA 3.0; earned an A- or above in PD 1015, PD 1070, MLTI 1019, PD 1170 or other related first-year experience course; student-centered attitude with mentoring orientation; ability to give and receive constructive feedback; strong communication and facilitation skills; teamwork orientation; interest in first-year student success, career development, teaching and/or program development.
- As a UC student employee, you are not contributing to the federal Social Security system (except Medicare).
- Hours/Compensation: approximately 5-7 hours per week; pay rate $12.00/hour; pre-semester training (7 hours). Nice to Have
- Arts & Sciences major eligible to earn co-op credit toward the A&S co-op track.
- Interest in mentoring, facilitating, and program development; willingness to coordinate with instructors and peers. Compensation & Benefits
