Payroll Specialist
Our client, in the public service industry, is in need for a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to support day-to-day payroll and finance operations for an organization based in the northwest side of Tucson, borderline Oro Valley. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured environment, values accuracy, and can manage high-volume transactional work with consistency and professionalism. The role focuses on maintaining reliable payroll and financial records, responding to routine questions, and helping ensure documentation is complete, compliant, and ready for review.
This role will go through the beginning of 2027, and has potential to go temp-to-hire for the right person.
Responsibilities

Process payroll for over 300 employees on a semi-monthly basis

Prepare and organize supporting documentation so files remain current, accessible, and aligned with audit and retention standards.

Perform regular account and transaction reconciliations, identify inconsistencies, and elevate complex issues to supervisory staff when needed.

Provide customer service to internal employees by answering payroll and finance questions from employees, vendors, and other stakeholders in a timely and thorough manner.

Provide cross-functional backup support for other finance team duties during absences, peak workloads, or shifting departmental needs.

Follow established procedures and internal controls to help preserve consistency, compliance, and accuracy in daily financial operations.

Assist with additional administrative or accounting tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the finance department.

At least 3 years of experience in payroll processing, including full-cycle payroll responsibilities.

Experience handling payroll for large employee populations, including environments with 500 or more employees.

Hands-on experience using Paycom and other payroll or accounting systems is ideal, but not required

Strong data entry skills with the ability to maintain accuracy while managing repetitive and deadline-driven work.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and comfort using web-based business applications.

Ability to maintain confidentiality, manage multiple priorities, and communicate effectively with a wide range of contacts.
