Payroll Specialist

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support payroll operations in Silver Spring, Maryland through a Contract assignment. This position will independently manage end-to-end payroll activities for a workforce of approximately 150 employees, including both hourly and salaried team members. The role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and a commitment to accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing on a bi-weekly schedule.

Responsibilities

• Administer complete payroll processing for approximately 150 employees, ensuring each bi-weekly cycle is completed accurately and on schedule.

• Review time records for hourly staff, including overtime and scheduled hours, to confirm pay calculations align with approved data.

• Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation to meet internal standards and regulatory requirements.

• Resolve payroll discrepancies by researching issues, validating data, and coordinating with appropriate stakeholders when needed.

• Process payroll for both exempt and non-exempt employees while applying relevant wage, tax, and deduction rules.

• Support compliance with multi-state payroll requirements and help ensure payroll practices follow applicable laws and company policies.

• Work within payroll platforms such as Paychex and contribute to payroll-related system updates or transition activities as assigned.

• Prepare payroll reports and summaries to support auditing, reconciliation, and management review.

• Experience handling full-cycle payroll with accountability for start-to-finish processing.

• Knowledge of payroll practices for both hourly and salaried employees.

• Familiarity with multi-state payroll regulations and related compliance requirements.

• Hands-on experience using payroll systems such as Paychex and ADP Workforce Now.

• Ability to review timekeeping data, identify inconsistencies, and correct payroll issues accurately.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage confidential employee information responsibly.

• Proficiency in meeting recurring deadlines in a high-accuracy payroll environment.
