Job title: Payroll Specialist China

About the Role As the Payroll Specialist China, you will execute end-to-end payroll activities for China, ensuring on-time processing, compliance with statutory directives and company policies, and strong financial controls. You will be part of the China Payroll team and collaborate with Regional Payroll Leadership and key stakeholders to standardize and operationalize global payroll solutions for China.

What You'll Do

  • Execute end-to-end China payroll processing, including monthly salary and statutory payments, ensuring on-time payroll runs.
  • Perform payroll reconciliations, monitor postings to finance, and handle year-end/year-begin activities and funds transfers.
  • Implement and monitor financial and internal controls to ensure ongoing Shell payroll compliance in a complex regulatory environment.
  • Monitor changes to China's statutory/regulatory landscape and coordinate with Policy, Tax, Legal, IT, Finance, and HR for timely implementation.
  • Participate in Payroll Accounting Finance Backlog sessions and drive open items to resolution.
  • Contribute to Global, Regional and Local payroll system upgrades/projects, provide payroll expertise, and communicate with stakeholders about compensation issues.
  • Respond to complex payroll employee queries via Salesforce, leveraging knowledge of China payroll, policies, and legislation.
  • Ensure compliance with Group Records Management retention; prepare audit reference documents and respond to audit requests.

What We're Looking For

  • 3-5 years of payroll functional experience with China SAP Payroll, Workday HR, and MS Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables and prioritize.
  • Analytical problem solver; independent yet a strong team player; detail-oriented; able to work under tight deadlines.
  • High level of confidentiality and data privacy compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; experience dealing with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, solution-minded, and can-do attitude.
  • Sound judgment to identify and resolve issues.
  • Fluent in English and Mandarin (written and verbal).

Nice to Have

  • Experience with global/regional/local payroll project implementations and system upgrades.
  • Experience handling payroll queries via Salesforce or similar systems.
