Payroll Clerk

We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to join an accountancy team in Chattanooga, Tennessee in a contract-to-permanent capacity. This position is well suited for someone who can manage high-volume payroll activity with accuracy, stay organized under deadlines, and build confidence in payroll tax and reporting processes. The role offers an opportunity to strengthen payroll expertise while working with tools such as QuickBooks and Excel in a supportive environment. This position requires in office presence in Chattanooga, Tennessee

Responsibilities

• Process full-cycle payroll for a workforce of approximately 250 employees while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.

• Prepare payroll-related reports and support regular reconciliation activities to ensure dependable recordkeeping.

• Assist with quarterly and annual payroll tax filings, including work connected to Forms 941 and 942.

• Review and manage wage garnishment deductions, ensuring employee payments comply with applicable requirements.

• Research payroll exceptions, respond to follow-up inquiries, and prepare written correspondence as needed.

• Maintain payroll data in QuickBooks and use Excel to track, organize, and analyze payroll information.

• Support day-to-day payroll operations by identifying discrepancies, resolving issues, and keeping processes moving efficiently.

• Experience handling payroll processing in a detail-oriented setting.

• Working knowledge of full-cycle payroll for employee populations ranging from 101 to 500 employees.

• Familiarity with payroll reporting and related documentation requirements.

• Experience with Forms 941 and 942 is required.

• Understanding of payroll garnishments and their effect on employee pay.

• Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.

• Ability to learn quickly, adapt to workflow demands, and manage a steady volume of payroll tasks.
