Job title: Patient Safety Assistant
About the Role The Patient Safety Assistant supports patient and family care as part of the health care team and contributes to maintaining a safe environment of care. Under the direction of the RN, this role may assist with feeding and activities of daily living and provides added safety for patients who demonstrate behavior detrimental to self or others.
What You'll Do
- Provide patient and family care as part of the health care team in accordance with Bay Area Hospital's mission, vision, and policies
- Monitor and adjust the environment to maintain safety in the environment of care
- Under the direction of the RN, assist with feeding and activities of daily living
- Ensure safety for patients who demonstrate behaviors detrimental to self or others
- Recognize and report abnormal occurrences
- Maintain regular attendance and knowledge of fire plan and escape routes
- Demonstrate competence through proficiency testing, skill demonstrations, and adherence to core standards for service excellence
What We're Looking For
- BLS certification (American Heart Association Healthcare Provider) at time of hire
- SAFE class or organization approved workplace violence training, or obtain within 6 months of hire (deadline by the last day of the month after the 6-month grace period)
- High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to read, write, and speak in person or on the telephone
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and stretch; ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must use standard precautions due to potential exposure to blood and body fluids
- Frequent use of a personal computer; good manual dexterity
- Team-oriented and able to work under direction of RN
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $16.48 - $24.18 per hour (USD)
