About the Role The Patient Care Technician (PCT) on the Cardiac Medical Telemetry unit supports RN/LPN staff by delivering essential patient care, safety, and comfort for patients on nights. Under established procedures, the PCT provides age-appropriate care and helps ensure a compassionate patient experience on the unit. What You'll Do
- Interact with patients and visitors, answer call lights and phones, and perform purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.
- Assist with safe patient handling, ambulation, transfers, repositioning using Safe Patient Handling equipment, under supervision.
- Provide basic nursing care (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, oral care, feeding, bed making, and responding to patient needs per policy and RN/LPN guidance.
- Support admission, discharge, and transfers; orient patients to their room and hospital; transport patients safely.
- Document and complete patient care activities: ADL, vital signs, weights, intake/output, calorie counts; perform and/or assist with procedures (e.g., urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care/dressing changes) under nurse direction; collect non-sterile specimens; perform point-of-care blood glucose testing.
- Promote skin integrity by reporting patient problems; assist as a care companion/sitter/observer when assigned.
- Perform department/ unit support tasks: restock equipment/linens, clean equipment, relay calls, maintain records, deliver supplies and specimens as needed. What We're Looking For
- Minimum Education: Eligible to work in the US; CNA training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
- Licensure/Certifications: Current BLS certification for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association). If not current, must obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Experience: No prior experience required.
- Skills/Abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work in a team; prioritize and follow directions; strong commitment to patient welfare; willingness to attend orientation; understands fire and safety procedures. Nice to Have
- Completion of an accredited CNA training course and at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred. Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $18.84 - $27.32 per hour; the posted rate may depend on candidate's expertise and years of experience.
- Shift: Nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) with rotating weekends; full-time schedule; Glenview, IL location.
