About the Role Logan Health is seeking a professional, compassionate Patient Access Representative to support the Genetics & Genomics Clinic at Logan Health Medical Center. This specialized clinic supports patients and families through genetic and genomic care, where accuracy, confidentiality, compassion, and clear communication are essential.
What You'll Do
- Complete patient registrations based on acuity level, clinical direction, and department protocol.
- Gather and verify patient demographic, insurance, and visit-specific information.
- Review and update information received from previous visits or pre-registration.
- Ensure accurate collection and entry of critical patient and insurance data.
- Verify insurance eligibility and benefits through insurance verification systems.
- Calculate and communicate patient out-of-pocket responsibility when appropriate.
- Collect and process payments for current services and previous balances in accordance with cash management and posting policies.
- Identify self-pay patients and refer them to financial counseling according to department procedure.
- Maintain knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, third-party payer requirements, insurance guidelines, pre-authorization and referral requirements, and accepted insurance plans.
- Accurately identify insurance plans within applicable systems and understand contract requirements.
- Provide administrative support to help assigned areas operate effectively and efficiently.
- Communicate customer service concerns, workflow issues, and process improvement opportunities to leadership.
- Meet productivity and quality expectations while taking ownership of your work and the patient experience.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with sensitive patient and family information.
What We're Looking For
- Related coursework beyond high school or experience in a complex administrative support position.
- Minimum of one year of experience in a customer service-focused position.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, think critically, and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to act with integrity, kindness, and empathy.
- Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn additional software as needed.
Preferred
- Previous experience in registration, scheduling, financial clearance, patient financial services, insurance verification, billing, or certified medical assisting.
- Strong working knowledge of healthcare insurance and benefit programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical terminology and medical coding.
