Pastoral Care Volunteers, Residential Aged Care Home, Darlinghurst

HammondCare pastoral care volunteers have an opportunity to support the spiritual and emotional needs of the elderly people living in an aged care home.

As a pastoral care volunteer, you’ll be a Christian actively involved with a local Christian church in the area, offering comfort, presence, and hope to those who need it most.

You’ll supplement and complement the work of our Residential Pastoral Care Coordinator, and under their direction you may:

• Support people to meet their spiritual needs
• Nurture spiritual development
• Assist with worship services, Bible studies and other faith-supporting activities

Skills required for this role:

• High level of interpersonal skills, including strong empathy and listening skills.
• Pastoral Care training for example Chaplaincy, Clinical Pastoral Education, or you could attend HammondCare pastoral care training- Spiritual Care Series, in preparation to becoming a pastoral care volunteer.

Volunteering along side Pastoral Care can be a rewarding experience, both for the person you visit as well as yourself. Regular visits from volunteers can help to improve quality of life and help people feel less isolated.

HammondCare is a provider of The Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme funded by the Australian Government and is established to promote links between elderly people and volunteers in their local community.

Requirements

• Please note that this site is not eligible for Centrelink-approved volunteering and cannot be used for Centrelink volunteer hour sign-off.
• We'd be happy to discuss a suitable time between Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday for 2 hours across 9am-4pm weekly or fortnightly.
• 18 years or older • NDIS screening and Orientation arranged and paid for by HammondCare
