About this role

About the Role Alstom is seeking a full-time onsite Passenger Conductor in Sanford, FL to ensure safe, efficient train operations and excellent passenger service. The role involves adherence to operating rules, supervision of on-train staff, and close coordination with dispatch and crew to move trains safely and accurately.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure the safe movement of trains by adhering to applicable operating rules/practices.
  • Oversee all on-train employees in service delivery by adhering to Alstom service standards.
  • Communicate clearly with passengers, crew members, and others to support safe, efficient train movements and customer service.
  • Secure movement orders and ensure clear understanding by operating crew.
  • Ensure pre-determined service requests are understood and carried out.
  • Maintain knowledge of operating characteristics, safety rules, air brake rules, electrical instructions, and emergency procedures.
  • Move between and around train cars, manipulating and lifting heavy air hoses and electrical cables.
  • Safely ride the side of train equipment, getting on and off as required.
  • Submit reports documenting movement delays, unusual occurrences, passenger inconveniences, and mechanical defects.
  • Assist in boarding and detraining of passengers.
  • Ensure compliance with train orders, signals, railroad rules, and FRA regulations.
  • Review instructions from dispatchers and discuss with locomotive engineer and train crew.
  • Inspect equipment on cars prior to departures.
  • Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone.
  • Read and understand bulletins and notices.
  • Assist and instruct train crews to couple/uncouple cars, operate switches, and perform minor repairs to railcars (including heavy couplings or air brake hoses).
  • Work with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars.
  • Maintain awareness of surrounding areas and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety.
  • Understand color and/or hand signals and systems; respond quickly to visual signals.

What We're Looking For

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • 2 years verifiable work experience and/or college.
  • No driving violations involving alcohol or drugs within the past 3 years.
  • Training will be provided in Sanford, FL upon hire.

Nice to Have

  • Outside work experience.
  • Experience working on an on-call basis.
  • Experience working varying shift schedules.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Mechanical experience.
