Job title: Partner or Counsel, Energy Practice
About the Role Taft is seeking a team-oriented partner or counsel to join our Energy group, supporting multiple offices across the United States. The successful candidate will bring a portable book of business and collaborate with cross-office teams on energy regulatory matters and transactions.
What You'll Do
- Provide regulatory and transactional counsel in FERC matters and energy markets.
- Advise on matters involving RTOs such as MISO, PJM, and SPP.
- Develop and maintain client relationships, contributing a portable book of business.
- Collaborate with Taft's Energy team and other offices on complex matters; lobbying experience is a plus but not the primary focus.
- Assist clients with regulatory filings, compliance, and negotiations as needed.
What We're Looking For
- Deep experience in FERC regulatory matters and energy market regulation.
- Experience with RTOs (MISO, PJM, SPP) and related transactional work.
- A portable book of business with established client relationships.
- Strong written and oral communication, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
- Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school; active bar admission.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Nice to Have
- Prior lobbying experience (considered but not primary).
- Experience across multiple offices (DC, Midwest, Mountain/West regions).
