  • About the Department

  • Under general supervision, this position officiates various sports leagues, including but not limited to baseball, basketball, flag football, kickball, soccer, softball, and volleyball.

  • Position Duties

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Officiates assigned sporting events, games, or competitions with fairness and respect to all players and spectators to maintain standards of play and to enforce all game rules.

  • Maintains a safe and fun environment for all involved during league play; promotes positive sportsmanship.

  • Judges performances in sporting competitions in order to award points, impose scoring penalties, and determine results.

  • Arrives before the start of the scheduled event; starts games on time.

  • Conducts inspections of sporting equipment, participants, and field conditions to ensure compliance with event and safety regulations.

  • Verifies game scores with the onsite Sports Supervisor.

  • Resolves claims of rule infractions or complaints by participants and assesses any necessary penalties; reports complaints made and actions taken or needed to the Sports Coordinator(s).

  • Performs disciplinary actions such as ejections for participants who violate the Town’s Behavioral Policies; assists in writing incident reports for injuries and player behavior.

  • Minimum Qualifications

  • The requirements listed below are representative of the education, experience, certification and/or licensure required. An equivalent combination of education and experience to perform the essential duties and meet the necessary employment standards may be considered.

  • Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age. Requires prior experience as a player, coach, instructor and/or official.

  • Concussion recognition training is required within ninety (90) days of hire and must be renewed annually.
