Working from early November 2026 through mid-February 2027, Part-Time Readers for the Hobart and William Smith Office of Admission will provide critical support in the holistic review of first-year undergraduate applicants. Readers will be asked to conduct a holistic review, and make admissibility decision on applicants, in conjunction with a reading partner. Remote Part-Time Readers must be comfortable evaluating applicants in accordance with the mission of Hobart and William Smith. Remote Readers must be prepared to work for at least 15-20 hours per week, have a strong attention to detail, and be able to work at a fast pace. Thorough application review training will be provided upon hiring.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Review first-year applications, including high school transcripts, standardized test scores, personal essays, recommendation letters, and other application materials
  • Submit detailed application evaluations and determine admissibility
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Admissions Leadership Team and follow specific instructions and procedures
  • Attend training sessions in early November, either virtually or on campus.
  • Be available for occasional candidate review meetings and group discussions

Other Information: This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefits eligible position. This position description is not all-inclusive as other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned. Work hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the academic year. Hourly rate: $25

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • At least 2 years of professional experience required.
  • College admission recruitment or related experience preferred.
  • Candidates for the position must possess superb written and oral communication skills, computer skills, and strong organizational skills
  • Access to a computer and a stable internet connection
  • Knowledge of enrollment CRM (Slate), Microsoft Office helpful.
  • The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
