About the Role The Interdisciplinary Conservatory at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts seeks two dynamic, experienced instructors to teach THIS 251 (World Vernacular Artistry) and THIS 253 (Performance Analysis) to undergraduate students as part of the Core Studies curriculum for the fall term (8/31–12/19). The two classes are co-listed with MUHL 251 and MUHL 253 and will be taught in two sections each, based on applicant experience and interest.
What You'll Do
- Deliver course material and create assignments; evaluate student work.
- Maintain clear, timely communication with students, faculty, and staff via Roosevelt University email.
- Submit syllabi each semester using the university template, documenting policies, expectations, procedures, and grading criteria.
- Meet institutional expectations for grade submission, syllabus preparation, and mandatory university training.
- Coordinate with MUHL instructors as needed for cross-listed content.
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduates in theatre/history and/or performance studies.
- Ability to teach THIS 251 (World Vernacular Artistry) and THIS 253 (Performance Analysis) in a cross-listed MUHL/THIS framework.
- Familiarity with ethnographic methodologies and engagement with Chicago-area communities and diasporas; knowledge of American vernacular and popular musics, vernacular theatre, and non-Western musics/theatrical practices is desirable.
- Ability to design and adapt syllabi, assignments, and assessments; strong organizational and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively.
Nice to Have
- Prior teaching in interdisciplinary conservatory settings; experience coordinating cross-listed courses; familiarity with performance theory, artistic research, embodied knowledge studies, autoethnography, and critical response processes.
- Comfort with technology and university LMS and policy requirements.
Compensation & Benefits
- Two 3-credit classes per instructor, total compensation of $7,964 per instructor for the fall term ($3,982 per class).
- Part-time appointment for fall semester (8/31–12/19).
- University-provided guidelines include return of syllabi, grade submission, and required training.
