Part-Time Hybrid Academic Advisor II

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences seeks an Academic Advisor II to advise online undergraduate students in our distance programs. This position will likely support students in our online Psychology program and the Bachelor of Liberal Studies degree.

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is the most academically varied college at Iowa State University. With 21 academic departments, one professional school, over 50 undergraduate majors, and more than 20 cross-disciplinary programs, the college plays a central role in nearly every major offered at Iowa State.

This is a benefit-eligible, hybrid position working 20 hours per week.

The successful candidate will bring a student-centered approach to academic advising and a strong preference for collaboration. They will have experience advising, counseling, or teaching a variety of student populations in both one-on-one and group settings, as well as experience working in an online learning environment. This candidate will demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, leadership, and time-management skills and understand the value and benefits of micro-credentials in supporting student learning and career development.

Example of Duties:

• Advise students concerning degree planning, academic enhancements, academic support services, academic policy issues, and graduation requirements
• Refer students to appropriate resources such as academic success, financial aid, ISU Online, etc.
• Assist in recruitment and retention of online students.
• Be available to assist with on-campus orientation and prospective student events.
• Engage in training in for-credit micro-credentials and serve as a resource for advisors and students

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in a liberal arts or science area or one of the college’s curricular areas
• Master’s degree in higher education, counseling, advising, education or a liberal arts or science area
• Experience advising, teaching, counseling students or working directly with clients/customers
• Experience using workplace technology and educational platforms (i.e., Workday, Outlook, Excel, Canvas, Navigate)
• Experience in online learning

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
