About the Role Under the general direction of the Nurse Manager, this RN provides nursing care in the Extended Observation Unit (three 23-Hour Observation recliners and nine 48-Hour Extended Observation beds) of the Galveston County Mental Health Wellness Center. The role serves individuals with mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorders, working within a multidisciplinary team and in accordance with the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Weekend availability (Saturday and Sunday, 8am–5pm) with flexibility is required. What You'll Do
- Provide nursing care to individuals in the Extended Observation Unit of the Galveston County Mental Health Wellness Center.
- Coordinate nursing activities as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
- Utilize the nursing process to plan, implement, document, and evaluate nursing care per the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
- Ensure medical admission criteria are met for all patients admitted to the Extended Observation Unit.
- Collaborate with state and local hospitals; work with other staff to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Perform tasks as assigned by the RN Nurse Manager, the Program Manager- Clinician, and the designated psychiatrist.
- Work part-time Saturdays and Sundays from 8am to 5pm, with flexibility to meet program needs.
- Adhere to and promote the compliance policy.
- Work within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Demonstrate engagement, time management, and organizational skills. What We're Looking For
- Current Texas RN license.
- 2 years RN experience.
- ADN/BSN/Diploma acceptable.
- BLS/CPR certification.
- Proficiency with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Microsoft Word/Excel.
- Mental health and crisis care experience preferred.
- Availability to work Saturdays and Sundays 8am–5pm part-time. Nice to Have
