Job title: Part-Time Faculty - American Sign Language - ASL 101, 102, 201 (Spring 2026)
About the Role The American Sign Language (ASL) Program at Syracuse University seeks a Part-Time Instructor for face-to-face ASL instruction for the Spring 2026 term. The instructor will teach one section of ASL 101 (level 1) and potentially ASL 102 (level 2) or ASL 201 (level 3). This is a one-semester appointment with potential renewal based on need and funding.
What You'll Do
- Teach four credits of ASL per course (approximately four contact hours per week) with on-campus delivery.
- Conduct student consultations, administer and grade tests, and utilize technology to enhance learning.
- Prepare lectures, projects, and other student assignments; develop or update class syllabi.
- Maintain regular office hours and meet all designated class periods; arrange substitutions if illness or emergency prevents attendance.
- Present instruction aligned with course competencies and performance levels; collect and submit student assessment data for accreditation purposes if applicable.
- Submit mid-semester progress reports and final grades per University regulations; provide departmentally sanctioned forms for student evaluations.
- Participate in departmental meetings/workshops and build positive rapport with students and colleagues.
What We're Looking For
- MA/MS in ASL teaching, Deaf Studies, or related field; native or near-native fluency in ASL.
- At least three years of prior experience teaching ASL at the college/university level.
- Ability to teach in hybrid or in-person formats (Monday–Friday) on the Syracuse Main Campus; ability to coordinate classes within the ASL program.
- National Certification in ASL teaching or equivalent.
- Experience using the Signing Naturally curriculum or similar ASL curriculum.
- Experience using Blackboard or other online platforms for course organization.
Nice to Have
- Experience with online and on-site course integration; demonstrated collaboration within a department.
Compensation & Benefits
- Pay range: $1,880.49 – $1,933.81 per credit hour; salary is for 8.5 months unless otherwise specified. Exempt status. Specific benefits are not listed in the posting.
