Job Description

JOB OVERVIEW

To oversee and coordinate all maintenance activities across Liuwa Plains National Park, ensuring that facilities, buildings, grounds, equipment, water systems and electrical systems are maintained safely, efficiently and to the required operational and environmental standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee all maintenance-related activities, including repairs, replacements and upkeep of equipment, facilities, buildings and grounds across all LPNP sites.

  • Develop, implement and enforce preventive and planned maintenance schedules.

  • Manage maintenance budgets and ensure expenditure is aligned with approved plans and requirements.

  • Supervise maintenance workers, technical staff, groundsmen, contractors and other assigned personnel; support recruitment, induction, training and performance feedback.

  • Serve as a liaison between the maintenance team and other departments and communicate maintenance plans, priorities and improvement requirements.

  • Identify areas for improvement, troubleshoot minor technical issues and resolve maintenance problems as they arise.

  • Execute and enforce company policies, procedures and standard operating procedures.

  • Respond promptly to maintenance emergencies and coordinate appropriate corrective action.

  • Develop maintenance procedures and ensure their effective implementation.

  • Conduct regular inspections of facilities, buildings, equipment and grounds to identify defects and ensure timely corrective action.

  • Check electrical and water systems in buildings and facilities to ensure functionality and safe operation.

  • Plan and oversee repair, replacement and installation activities.

  • Allocate workloads and supervise staff, including custodians, janitors, groundsmen and other maintenance personnel.

  • Maintain accurate attendance registers and ensure staff attendance records are properly maintained.

  • Monitor equipment, tools and maintenance inventory and initiate orders when required.

  • Manage relationships with contractors, suppliers and service providers and monitor the quality and timely completion of contracted work.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and submit daily activity and progress reports.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements in all maintenance activities.

  • Manage the set-up and take-down of facilities and equipment for events and other park activities.

  • Plant, equipment and facilities maintained to a high level of functionality and operational readiness.

  • KEY MEASURES AND TARGETS

  • Maintain all facilities and equipment to optimal operational standards.

  • Implement and maintain high environmental standards in all maintenance activities.

  • Implement effective record-keeping systems and maintenance management plans.

  • Create and maintain daily, weekly and monthly inspection and maintenance check systems.

  • CAPABILITIES, COMPETENCIES AND EXPERIENCE

  • At least five (5) years of management or supervisory experience, preferably in a maintenance, facilities, engineering or related environment.

  • Proven experience in managing and maintaining water management systems.

  • Proven practical experience with AC and DC electrical systems.

  • Demonstrated experience in facilities, equipment and general infrastructure maintenance.

  • Experience in planning and implementing preventive maintenance programmes.

  • Experience supervising staff, contractors and service providers.

  • Ability to manage maintenance budgets, inventory and resources effectively.

  • Strong problem-solving, planning, organisational and communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records, logs and reports.

  • Knowledge and practical understanding of occupational health, safety and environmental requirements.

  • Project management experience will be an added advantage.
