Job title: Paralegal - Civil Defense Litigation
About the Role Segal McCambridge, a nationally recognized litigation firm, is seeking an experienced paralegal to join our Houston team. The role supports high-level civil defense litigation across construction defect, premises liability, product liability, and other complex general liability matters. This is an in-office position with one remote day per week, with potential for additional remote days as you progress.
What You'll Do
- Take ownership of files and work with attorneys through all phases of litigation—from initial pleadings through trial preparation.
- Maintain accuracy and organization; drive cases forward while meeting deadlines.
- Handle Texas matters in both state and federal courts; assist with discovery, drafting, and filings.
- Manage calendars, deadlines, and a diverse workload with strong time-management.
- Draft, edit, and proofread legal documents with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Windows applications, e-filing systems, and online research tools.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment; communicate effectively with senior-level professionals.
- Support billing and time entry; collaborate with team as needed.
- Adapt to a hybrid in-office/remote work arrangement as the paralegal progresses.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a paralegal in civil defense litigation.
- Experience handling Texas matters in both state and federal courts.
- Strong knowledge of litigation procedures and legal terminology.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure.
- Meticulous attention to detail in drafting, editing, and proofreading legal documents.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Windows applications, e-filing systems, and online research tools.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including interaction with senior-level professionals.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively; sound judgment in managing a diverse workload.
- Experience with billing and time entry.
