Job title: Organizer (UPTE, CWA Local 9119) – San Francisco/UCSF Assignment
About the Role UPTE, CWA Local 9119 is seeking to hire a union Organizer for an assignment based in San Francisco / UCSF. The Organizer will train members to plan, lead, and conduct organizing, political, legislative, and issue-oriented campaigns, and will work with local and systemwide officers to develop and implement campaign strategies.
What You'll Do
- Train members to plan, lead and conduct organizing, political, legislative, and issue-oriented campaigns.
- Collaborate with local and systemwide officers to propose and implement innovative ideas to achieve campaign goals.
- Develop member leaders to run strong chapters capable of addressing the needs of members.
- Recruit new members and engage stewards in union activities and political campaigns.
- Maintain regular one-on-one contact with members and develop worksite leadership structures through stewards and other leaders.
- Deliver formal and informal education programs to train stewards and worksite leaders.
- Demonstrate proficiency in organizing through leadership development and mentoring, rather than assuming sole responsibility for success.
What We're Looking For
- 2-5 years prior labor or nonprofit organizing experience, particularly in member development.
- Demonstrated success in member-based field organizing and mobilization.
- Ability to conduct one-on-one visits, site visits, in-person meetings, phone calls, video meetings, and other interactions with members and potential members.
- Experience working with groups of activists on dedicated outcomes and benchmarks.
- Post-secondary education and/or work experience demonstrating strong strategic and analytical abilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Moderate computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases and email applications.
- Valid California driver's license; travel, temporary assignments and extended work hours are occasionally required.
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting salary range of $87,220.41 – $132,987.17 commensurate with experience, and an excellent benefits package including a defined benefit pension plus 6% employer contribution to 401k, all university holidays, health benefits, wellness stipend, and flexible work arrangements.
