About the Role An Organizer at United Domestic Workers of America (UDW/AFSCME Local 3930) will recruit, train, and mobilize home care and family child care providers to build worker power and advance organizational priorities through effective organizing, leadership development, and campaign execution. The role requires independent engagement with workers, facilitation of meetings and trainings, and support for the growth of organizing committees and action teams. You will help develop communication systems, build coalitions with community partners, and represent the union at events, while ensuring accurate data management and administrative compliance. Higher-level organizers will develop campaign materials, coordinate strategic initiatives, mentor member leaders, and contribute to planning and evaluation of organizing efforts.

What You'll Do

  • Independently organize assigned turf, including membership recruitment, leader and activist development, and the formation of organizing committees, contract action teams, councils, and other teams of workers who take action on priorities.
  • Recruit union membership and PEOPLE through weekly Orientations, House Visits, AIMs, Membership Meetings, New Member Recruitment Appointments, special events, and trainings.
  • Develop organizing skills of member organizers; identify, recruit, train, and develop union leaders; assist leadership in developing and executing plans.
  • Develop communication systems, build coalitions with community partners, and represent the union at events while ensuring accurate data management and administrative compliance.
  • Organizers at higher levels will develop campaign materials, coordinate strategic initiatives, mentor member leaders, and contribute to the planning and evaluation of organizing efforts.

What We're Looking For

  • Commitment to worker organizing and social justice; ability to recruit, train, and mobilize members; strong facilitation and leadership development skills.
  • Ability to engage with workers independently, facilitate meetings and trainings, and manage data and administrative tasks with accuracy.
  • Strong communication, coalition-building, and organizational skills; ability to build partnerships with community allies and represent the union at events.
  • Experience in organizing settings and demonstrated ability to identify and develop union leaders; excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary ranges (USD per year): Organizer I: $68,640.00 – $82,212.00; Organizer II: $69,888.00 – $86,322.60; Organizer III: $73,382.40 – $90,638.73.
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM (subject to change).
  • Job location: Santa Maria, CA.
  • Status: Exempt (Salary).
