Job title: Organizer-in-Training (Los Angeles)
About the Role The Organizer-in-Training will support UPTE Organizers and member leaders in building a militant, progressive union and labor movement. Based in Los Angeles, the role trains to become a future union Organizer and focuses on leadership development and campaigns.
What You'll Do
- Provide a broad range of support to UPTE Organizers and member leaders
- Assist in planning and conducting organizing, political, legislative, and issue-oriented campaigns
- Develop member leaders to run strong chapters addressing members' needs
- Recruit new members to participate in union activities and political campaigns
- Maintain regular one-on-one contact with members
- Develop and maintain effective worksite leadership structures through recruitment, training, and support of stewards and other union leaders
- Help develop and deliver formal and informal education programs to train stewards and worksite leaders
- Work in all elements of organizing through leadership development and mentoring
What We're Looking For
- A commitment to social justice and building a movement of working people
- Ability to conduct one-on-one visits, site visits, in-person meetings, phone calls, video meetings, and other interactions with members and potential members
- Prior experience with labor organizing, activism, or community organizing a plus
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, databases)
- Valid California driver's license; travel and extended hours may be required

Compensation & Benefits
- Annual compensation: $75,000 for an expected period of several months
