Job title: Oratory Contest Participant / National Right to Life Essay Contest Participant
About the Role The MCCL Oratory Contest and National Right to Life Essay Contest provide students with opportunities to learn about right-to-life issues, hone communication skills, and advocate for the most vulnerable. The Oratory Contest invites high school juniors and seniors to research, write, and deliver a five- to seven-minute pro-life speech; submissions are video-based. The Essay Contest invites teens to write about why they are pro-life, with separate Junior (grades 7-9) and Senior (grades 10-12) categories.
What You'll Do
- For Oratory: research and write a 5- to 7-minute pro-life speech on approved topics (abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, or stem cell research); record a video or provide a YouTube link; submit by May 20. A panel of pro-life judges selects a winner who may advance to the national contest at the National Right to Life Conference in Arlington, VA (all expenses for the student and parent chaperone paid).
- For Essay: write a 300- to 500-word essay answering "Why are you pro-life?" with separate Junior (grades 7-9) and Senior (grades 10-12) categories. Essays are due in mid-January. Winning essays are published in the National Right to Life Convention handbook and National Right to Life News.
What We're Looking For
- Eligibility: Oratory for high school juniors and seniors; Essay for teens in grades 7-12. Ability to research, articulate a pro-life argument, and adhere to word and video submission requirements.
- Commitment to deadlines: May 20 for Oratory submissions; mid-January for Essay submissions.
- Interest in right-to-life issues and willingness to follow contest rules and rubrics.
Nice to Have
- Experience in public speaking or essay writing; comfort with presenting to an audience; interest in pro-life advocacy.
Compensation & Benefits
- The Oratory Contest winner may compete at the National Right to Life Conference in Arlington, VA, with all expenses for the student and a parent chaperone covered.
