About this role
Job title: Optical Test Engineer
About the Role The Optical Test Engineer will define test strategies, qualification plans, and qualification criteria for optical connector products, and will drive measurement and data analysis from R&D through high-volume production.
What You'll Do
- Define comprehensive test strategies and qualification plans for optical connector products, covering electrical, optical, mechanical, and environmental performance per industry standards.
- Conduct key measurements including insertion loss, return loss, polarization-dependent loss, extinction ratio, jitter, and eye diagram analysis using high-speed test equipment.
- Build and maintain automated test stations using scripting languages like Python, LabVIEW, or MATLAB to improve test efficiency, repeatability, and data throughput in lab and production environments.
- Use statistical tools to analyze large datasets, identify failure trends, and produce detailed test reports for design reviews, product certification, and customer submissions.
What We're Looking For
- Required: Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field; 3+ years of experience in optical component or photonic device testing.
- Proficiency with optical test instruments: optical spectrum analyzers, power meters, interferometers, beam profilers, and high-speed oscilloscopes.
- Solid understanding of fiber optic technologies, connectors, and transceiver architectures.
- Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills; knowledge of general telecommunication standards.
- Hands-on experience with Python, C/C++, or LabVIEW for test automation and hardware control is a plus; demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team environment.
