Optical Engineer

About the Role Join OPmobility's optical engineering team to develop innovative exterior and lighting systems for a safer and more sustainable mobility experience. This role focuses on leading optical system development from design to serial production, collaborating across departments to deliver robust, feasible and cost-effective solutions. What You'll Do

• Propose and supervise the optical systems development based on customer requirements, feasibility and profitability, and participate in creation of DGL.
• Follow the VPDS process for development; revise optical parameters and share know-how with a wider group of optical engineers; collaborate with other departments to find the best compromise.
• Prepare and realize presentations for customers and suppliers; coordinate builds for customer presentations; prepare verification samples (including homologation).
• Lead the optical engineering team when optical development leadership is required, delegate tasks, and set priorities.
• Ensure timely handover of task results aligned with project milestones (prototype samples, data release to hard tooling) and requirements from other departments.
• Train newcomers and revise training materials; update optical systems at key milestones (e.g., OTDR) with latest know-how, feasibility, and robustness.
• Support project launches; analyze first-shot quality; assist tuning of manufacturing process; propose improvements as needed.
• Prepare and present lessons learned; complete required training to obtain knowledge; comply with safety and internal regulations. What We're Looking For
• Bachelor or Master degree in Optics or Physics.
• English – advanced level (C1).
• 3-5 years of experience.
• Proficiency with CATIA, LightTools, rendering software, GOM Inspect, MS Office.
• Experience completing at least 2 projects from design phase to serial production.
• Leadership experience in optical concept development (two or more instances).
• Strong collaboration skills; customer-centric mindset; ability to drive results; willingness to learn and develop. Nice to Have
• Experience with OTDR and other optical testing methods.
• Cross-functional leadership experience and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Familiarity with DGL or similar design guidance.
