Optical Design Engineer

Scope:

• Perform optical system modeling, simulation, and performance analysis.
• Conduct stray-light modeling and related optical investigations.
• Support the design and architecture of advanced display and imaging systems.
• Partner with mechanical, electrical, and product design teams to define requirements, evaluate tolerances, and support the integration of optical designs into manufacturable hardware.
• Build, maintain, and execute optical models using commercial simulation platforms and Python-based tools for analysis, automation, visualization, and reporting.

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Optics, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• At least four years of experience with optical design, modeling, and simulation, preferably in consumer or commercial hardware.
• Experience with optical simulation tools such as Zemax, LightTools, CODE V, or comparable platforms.
• Experience leading technical projects and coordinating with cross-functional engineering teams to achieve project objectives and timelines.

Pluses:

• Master’s or doctoral degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience designing augmented-, mixed-, or extended-reality hardware or other advanced display systems.
• Strong Python skills for automating simulations, processing technical data, creating visualizations, and preparing engineering reports.
• Familiarity with cameras, image sensors, display systems, or related electro-optical technologies.
• Experience solving complex design problems in fast-paced product development environments with evolving requirements.

Estimated Min Rate: $50.00 Estimated Max Rate: $70.00/hr. Depends on work experience.
