Ophthalmic Clinic Nurse

About this role
Our Ophthalmic Clinic Nurse provides basic medical assessment and medical clearance for all ophthalmic local anesthesia cases. They are responsible for scheduling selected surgical candidates in collaboration with the Ophthalmic Day Surgery Nurse Team Leader and Ophthalmic Team Manager.
What you will contribute

General health medical assessment of ophthalmic surgical patients, including but not limited to measuring blood sugar and blood pressures, assessing wounds, and assessing other medical issues as needed

Supervise Day Crew in obtaining basic medical history and informed consent for photo and media use.

Schedule patients who meet both ophthalmic and general health criteria for surgery base on approved planned surgery numbers

Provide pre- and post-operative instructions to ophthalmic patients and their family members to prepare for day surgery and for recovery.

Assist with data entry activity for patient information records, surgery scheduling, post-operative visual outcomes and YAG laser discharge print-outs

Assist the Ophthalmic Clinic Coordinator with organization and monitoring of the Ophthalmic Clinic in order to achieve optimum patient flow management, particularly in scheduling of clinic appointments and maintaining medical supply inventory.

Coordinate any surgical schedule changes, including rescheduling and same day admissions, with the Ophthalmic Day Surgery Nurse Team Leader and Ophthalmic Team Manager

Assist Ophthalmic professionals with vision screening assessments, as directed
For This Role, You Will Need

Commitments 12 months or longer require successful completion of the Mercy Ships On Boarding program

Registered Nurse with current license, Ophthalmic Nurse licensure preferred

May also utilize Primary Care Physicians

Current Basic Life Support certification is required; ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) are optional

Familiarity with database systems required
