Job title: Operations - QHSE Officer
About the Role The Operations - QHSE Officer will drive CFAO Equipment SHEQ strategy and oversee its implementation across branches and sites in South Africa, promoting a safety culture and ensuring compliance with OHSACT 85 and ISO standards. This role partners with leadership to deliver timely SHEQ reporting and ensure the safety and security of facilities and personnel.
What You'll Do
- Drive and coordinate the implementation of the SHEQ strategy and programmes at branches and sites.
- Communicate the SHEQ strategy and develop plans aligned to CFAO Equipment SHEQ strategy and CFAO SA Roadmap; implement branch-specific goals and programmes.
- Provide regular SHEQ reporting to the General Manager; drive ANZEN and Zero Harm initiatives; promote a safety culture and supervise the SHEQ team across branches and sites.
- Develop the SHEQ team and ensure high-quality data management and record keeping; supervise direct reports and monitor outputs.
- Manage SHEQ-related change to minimize disruption; ensure audit standards are met and follow-up on findings.
- Report to the National SHEQ Manager and General Manager on facilities, security improvements, and related plans; drive carbon-neutral projects.
- Monitor day-to-day SHEQ performance; analyze data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Support risk management: identify risk exposures, assist with safety risk assessments, and develop safe working procedures.
- Implement Internal Audit plan and perform internal SHEQ audits; establish and distribute emergency plans; conduct fire and building inspections.
- Enforce access control: ensure only authorized employees enter premises and that contractors are indemnified and familiar with safety regulations.
What We're Looking For
- Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent; relevant tertiary qualification (NQF 5); National Safety Diploma or equivalent (Safety/Environmental Management) or studying towards that; SAMTRAC would be an advantage.
- Internal Auditor's or ISO-related qualification (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, NOSA) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years relevant SHEQ experience with 2-3 years in a supervisory role; Code 8 driver's license.
- Sound knowledge of OHSACT 85 and related safety legislation and ISO standards; strong root cause analysis skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and adapt to a high-pressured environment.
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills; ability to interact with all levels and influence where necessary.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours; strong data management and reporting capabilities.
- Professional and objective demeanor; ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Nice to Have
- SAMTRAC would be an advantage.
- Internal Auditor/ISO-related qualifications (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, NOSA) are desirable.
