About this role

Model Oncology

Model Oncology is partnering with a large integrated, not-for-profit health system in southwest Missouri to build out its oncology service line, and we're recruiting a physician leader to serve as Oncology Service Line Medical Director. This is a chance to build the future of a cancer program rather than simply practice within it.

The role:

  • Lead an integrated oncology service line across two markets, uniting medical, radiation, and surgical oncology with research, navigation, and emerging therapies in one coordinated program
  • Build the infrastructure and multidisciplinary expertise for the next era of care, including bispecific T-cell engagers and a cellular therapy and CAR-T referral pathway
  • Deliver academic-caliber care with precision medicine and molecular profiling as part of routine practice
  • Anchor a coordinated multidisciplinary program and weekly tumor board
  • Grow an active research portfolio across commercial, academic, and investigator-initiated studies
  • Strengthen the surgical referral base across breast, colorectal, gynecologic oncology, urology, surgical oncology, and neurosurgery

The program is backed by significant and growing investment in oncology infrastructure and technology, and a collaborative, low-turnover physician culture with 95% physician retention.

Compensation and benefits include a base salary of $700K+ with a two-year guarantee, a leadership stipend, incentive compensation tied to quality, performance, and wRVUs, a $100K sign-on bonus, relocation assistance, student loan repayment, an annual CME allowance, tail coverage included, and a 403(b) with employer match.

The region offers a cost of living about 10% below the national average, strong schools, and the lakes and outdoor recreation of the Ozarks, all within about three hours of St. Louis, Kansas City, and Tulsa.

About Model Oncology

Model Oncology partners with community health systems to build and operate sustainable oncology programs. The organization does not function as a conventional consultancy that delivers a strategy and exits, nor as a traditional management services organization administering back-office functions at a distance. Model Oncology embeds within each partner system, operating alongside local teams and assuming accountability for program outcomes over the long term.

The organization's work encompasses program design, physician recruitment, pharmacy strategy, payer contracting, and the operational infrastructure required for communities to deliver high-quality cancer care close to home. Model Oncology holds itself to the standard of a genuine, accountable partner rather than a vendor.
