Job title: Ocean Import Specialist
About the Role The Ocean Import Specialist at JAS will manage ocean import shipments for customers from our Bangkok office, ensuring compliance with laws and company policies while delivering high-quality service.
What You'll Do
- Receive and track customer bookings and orders; issue shipping instructions; notify customers of arrivals and charges; escalate delays and holds as required. Apply charges for holds and communicate to the necessary party promptly.
- Process Customs Entries: classify invoices, file RLF entries, and enter electronic invoices; own FDA-related entries; prepare documentation (IT number, commercial invoices) with accuracy.
- Transmit information to ABI, verify results and correct as necessary; monitor the release of customs and any related OGA (USDA, FCC, DOT, etc.). Check release details and resolve discrepancies; transmit payment of duties as needed.
- Manage exceptions with involved parties and customers; ensure file contains all required documents in proper sequence; coordinate entry and break bulk shipments.
- Work with Sales on account implementation to ensure a smooth transition from Sales to Operations; monitor shipments on IT and provide release, payment and delivery instructions within allotted free time; collect COD monies owed.
- Ensure high data quality by processing shipments accurately; provide accurate job costing forecasts and manage payables, receivables and accruals per company rules; dispute incorrect payables with vendors and overseas offices.
- Bill/invoice each file to the respective customers; ensure Original Bill of Lading requirements are met; dispatch freight for delivery and maintain communication with truckers; confirm POD and update systems; track and trace updates; assist Sales with quotes using rates and tariffs; maintain necessary documents in proper locations.

What We're Looking For
- Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills; strong computer skills including Microsoft Office; detail oriented with ability to multitask and meet deadlines; able to work both independently and in a team.
- Knowledge of US customs laws, practices and procedures; able to perform essential duties without posing a direct safety risk.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED; minimum 3 years’ experience in imports; knowledge of import entry procedures, compliance and regulations; knowledge of ISF and FDA requirements preferred; knowledge of OGA transactions preferred.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of First Port of Arrival (FPOA) entry processes preferred
- FDA experience preferred
- Knowledge of Importer Security Filing (ISF) preferred
- Good working knowledge of OGA transactions preferred
