Job title: Ocean Export Specialist

About the Role Lead the export department responsible for ocean shipments, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable laws, while driving customer service and profitability. This role requires energetic leadership and a focus on bottom-line results through efficient, compliant operations. You will oversee operations, staff, and vendor relationships to enable smooth export activities.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and oversee the export department to ensure the movement of freight via ocean out of the country, in accordance with organizational policy and procedures, and to comply with relevant local, country and international law and processes.
  • Maintain the business flow of the Export department and ensure all levels of compliance are met on the export process.
  • Supervise staff to ensure use of tools to achieve department financial goals; oversee vendor usage.
  • Develop efficient workflow, identify problems, quantify workload with reports, and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage communications with export authorities, customers and suppliers across relevant countries to maintain compliant, positive relationships.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support export activities and organizational operations.
  • Initiate and promote change to increase organizational effectiveness; make sound decisions based on analysis and judgment.
  • Ensure staff training and resources; negotiate with local carriers on spot pricing and issue rate quotes; TSA compliance for the branch; provide quotes for clients.
  • Participate in outside sales activities; maintain current records on truckers (insurance certs, tariffs); coordinate work between office staff and 3rd party warehouse; deliver documents to 3rd party warehouse and US Customs for Export.
  • Meet with SSL, ocean carriers, warehouse agents, and truckers to review service needs; handle shipments with compliance; maintain pricing records; audit export files for compliance and profitability; handle dangerous goods shipments for Air Export.
  • Escalate department concerns to upper management; track service faults with 3rd party warehouses; perform other duties as requested.

What We're Looking For

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office; detail-oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated, able to work in a team and independently; strong knowledge of regulatory compliance with export rules and regulations.
  • Able to interact positively with co-workers, subordinates and supervisors; TSA compliance; Dangerous Goods awareness.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED; College Diploma a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years relevant Export (Air or Ocean) and freight forwarding experience; minimum 3 years supervisory experience; knowledge of international and domestic freight, trucking and warehouse services.
