Job title: Ocean Export Specialist
About the Role JAS seeks an Ocean Export Specialist to manage and oversee the export department for ocean shipments, ensuring compliance with local, country and international law and processes. The role requires an energetic, customer-service driven candidate focused on bottom-line results, staff supervision, and effective cross-department collaboration.
What You'll Do
- Manage and develop efficient workflow for the export department to maximize productivity.
- Identify problems and implement corrective actions based on analysis and experience.
- Utilize reports to quantify and prioritize workload.
- Manage communications with export authorities, customers and suppliers across necessary countries to ensure lawful and efficient operations.
- Collaborate with other departments to support export activities across operating functions.
- Initiate and implement organizational changes to increase effectiveness.
- Ensure staff training and resources are available; supervise staff usage of tools to reach financial goals.
- Negotiate with local carriers for spot pricing and issue rate quotes.
- Maintain TSA compliance and branch maintenance.
- Provide quotes for internal and external clients.
- Participate in outside sales activities with sales/management.
- Maintain up-to-date records on truckers (insurance certificates, tariffs).
- Coordinate work between office staff and 3rd party warehouses.
- Deliver documents to 3rd party warehouse and US Customs for Export.
- Meet with SSL, ocean carriers, warehouse agents, and truckers to review service needs.
- Handle shipments in accordance with compliance requirements.
- Maintain pricing records from all carriers.
- Audit export files for compliance and business process; audit for profitability.
- Handle processing of Dangerous Goods shipments for Air Export.
- Escalate department concerns to management as needed.
- Track service faults by 3rd party warehouses.
- Other duties as requested.

- Minimum 7 years of relevant Export (Air or Ocean) and freight forwarding experience.
- Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of procedures for international and domestic freight, trucking and warehouse services.
- TSA compliant and Dangerous Goods awareness.
