Job title: Ocean Export Specialist
About the Role
The Ocean Export Specialist facilitates the movement of products/equipment/materials out of the country via ocean freight in accordance with company policy and applicable laws. The role provides customer service to exporters, including bookings, rates, document production, and coordination with agents and suppliers.
What You'll Do
- Prepare/coordinate the necessary documentation for efficient, cost-effective, and lawful ocean export activities.
- Coordinate cargo pickup/transfer and monitor status.
- Communicate with export authorities, customers, and suppliers across relevant territories to ensure lawful, efficient operations.
- Manage/update carrier/vendor rates and obtain spot rates when necessary.
- Communicate with overseas agents and clients (pre-alerts, rate requests, shipment status).
- Track shipments and update customers/agents, create and maintain customer files.
- Handle customer invoicing and payables approval.
- Audit files for accuracy and completeness.
- Interact professionally with coworkers; complete JWS entry and documentation.
- Assist other departments as needed or requested by management.
What We're Looking For
- 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Additional languages are a plus.
- Geographical knowledge; knowledge of shipping regions helpful.
- Previous knowledge of O/S Cargo Wise is a plus.
- Experience in the freight forwarding industry is a plus.
- Team player with the ability to work in a fluid environment and handle unexpected situations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive problem-solving and diplomacy.
- Respectful to management and co-workers.
- Able to perform essential duties without posing a direct health or safety threat to self or others.
- Able to interact positively with co-workers, subordinates and supervisors.
